On 29th March 2019, my class and I went to the Fridays for Future protest. This is a protest for students who care about the environment. We want to fight for climate protection! We thought it was very important to go, because Greta Thunberg was going to be there. Greta Thunberg is a 16-year-old girl from Sweden who started it all. On this day, she dared to talk in front of 25.000 people! At the beginning of the event, many people gave speeches, and a cool band was there, as well. My friends and I tried to be as close to the stage as possible. We knocked out some cheerleader moves and made a pyramid, so Maria was up there with our poster. The people took pictures of us! Later, we started to march. It was loud and crowded. My friends and I shouted some slogans, such as: “Wir sind hier, wir sind laut, weil ihr uns die Zukunft klaut!“ I could not stop, I was totally excited and could not stop chanting. After a while though, my legs hurt. Where we arrived, at Brandenburg Gate, everybody was waiting only for Greta. Greta came and everybody took out their phones. I thought it was a pity, that her speech was so short and not really special. Nevertheless, I found the protest very cool and would do it again! Will you join us? 😊

Comments from classmates: “At the end of the day, I would recommend it to everyone, to go to such a protest- just to experience it!” - Federica C. “Greta said: ‘This is only the beginning!’ And we think that’s right. We loved her statements very much!” - Liza B. , Maria P., Elli H., Zusia P. “The greatest thing on that day was my home and my bed.” - Nathalie B. “We tried to force our way through to the stage because we wanted to see Greta. When she finally came onto the stage, Jessi took me onto her shoulders so that I could film Greta’s speech. That was exciting!” - Angelina P. “Hopefully, all these protests will help to save our nature or change the mind of some people, to avoid plastic and toxic things, and to stay away from burning fossil fuels.” - Chantal W. |
