It is rain season in South America. This year the amount of rainfall was way above the average, what lead to many rivers overflowing their banks. As a result, the Orinoco River in Venezuela flooded dozens of Villages close to the water like Parmana or Las Bonitas. They are known for their traditional culture and were completely destroyed.
Reports say that about 300 people were killed in the floods and many more were injured. The locals are now starting to look for missing people in the debris of the houses. Because of the remote location of the affected villages, it is extremely hard for help to get there.
The Venezuelan President declared a national state of emergency and said in an interview:”Our thoughts are with the victims of the flood and their relatives. We will try to help the people in the affected regions as quick as possible.”
